This year our Art Program entered the Vans High School Custom Culture Contest, which was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design. Custom Culture High School is a national high school customization competition using blank Vans shoes to be customized around specific themes, Hometown Pride and Head in the Clouds. To get into the competition we had to fill out an application and submit a detailed sketch of one of the above themes. After two weeks of developing a theme for hometown pride, we found out last week that we were one of 250 schools chosen nationwide
to continue onto the next phase of the competition. Our students are currently working on painting their designs onto actual Vans, sent to us by the company. Our students have about four weeks to work on the shoes, this phase of the competition is due April 16th. From there Vans will judge the designs and chose the top 50. If we make it into the top 50, we would move onto the last and final stage of a public vote.
